Asia’s Top 50 Apps: Discovering Apps in Asia
Last year’s media coverage of Asia’s Top 50 Apps clearly showed the need to identify Asia-based applications and showcase them on a global outreach platform. In Techcrunch’s post, Serkan Toto mentioned that his emphasis was on the Top 50 Apps and went on to give a good paragraph on each of them. He briefly noted that most (if not all) the startups were English based since the Top 50 Apps was an English-based platform. For Asia’s Top 50 Apps 2011, we want to strive to capture applications based on their native languages as well, especially if they deserve a spot on the Top 50 list.
As how AsiaJin puts it “But there should be room for many, many more” , Asia’s Top 50 Apps 2011 strives to capture the entire apps directory in Asia regardless or language or if they make the Top 50. This is with the goal to recognize the region as a whole, single, combined market.
Following the original format, there will be a similar call for the community to participate in selecting the best apps in the region. The nomination period is open to the public beginning September 20, 2011. Nominations are done online here. The Top 50 Apps will be shortlisted based on the number of nominations they receive.
Last year’s edition attracted more than a thousand submissions where 100 web and mobile apps from 10 countries were nominated. The Top 50 Apps were selected based on popularity (number of times they were nominated) with the Top 10 selected by a panel of judges based on the criteria of technology, design and business innovation.
Asia’s Top 50 Apps is organized by SingTel Innovation Exchange and powered by e27. The community-centric award will begin its nomination period on September 20, 2011. Nominations will close on September 30, 2011 and the voting period will then ensue.
The results of both voted and judged awards will be announced at Accelerate@TECHVENTURE on October 14, 2011. The developers of the Top 10 Apps will be flown in to Singapore to attend the awards ceremony.
